Loralie

When I talk about my beloved Loralie. She is the light of my life. When I’m cuddling and hanging out with her, traveling with her, and doing things for her.

Its Saturday and I’m hanging out with Loralie most of the day. Were Cat napping and just laying about cuddling. I’m trying to combat the feeling of being a tourist. It feels like a vacation I haven’t had in years but I keep reminding my self that I’m living here. So I’m staying in fighting the urge to pack in as much stuff as posable as I would if I had a short amount of days to see the city. Its still so surreal so I’m trying to do mundane things to keep my self from going over board, I’m trying to pace my self.

So I went to the movies after spending the most of the day with Loralie. I went to see the new Harry Potter movie. It was good but much darker than the others. I went to one of the many movie theaters in downtown Berkley. Movie theaters seem to be like churches in the south, there are several per city block. After the movie I walked around down town Berkley just getting to know the place. I’m walking so much I’m starting to wear blisters on the bottom of my feet. I’m going to invest in some good sneakers soon.

I walked up and down Shattuck st. stopping in at a produce/ grocer to buy a white skinned nectarine then headed back the other way.  I stopped to window shop in stores of interest along the way. I stopped in at this really cool book store called “Half Price Books” and went through some of the stacks. Jacky and Matt called later wanting to see if I would be interested in going to Target. I said sure and tried to walk to meet them. I ended up walking all the way down to Beckley Bowl which looked to be a grocery store. They came and picked me up from there and we went to Target.

It was the Mecca of all Targets!!!! I died and went to Target heaven. It was two stores! It was freak’n awesome!  We ran a few more errands and then they dropped me off at the apartment. So here ends the day, me blogging and going through the things I bought at the Mac Daddy of all Targets.

So on my second day I slept in longer. I was so tired after the two days of hanging out all night. When I was finally able to drag my self out of bed. Jacky and I  went up to Berkley and had lunch and this nice Italian deli. We then went into the city were we returned the microphone from the day before and then headed to Dolores Park.  We stopped off at Birite Creamery for some Gelato and headed across the street to the top of the furthest hill in the park. It was an amazing view of the city.

I had fun hanging out with Jacky in the park people and Dog watching. There were a lot of cute dogs running around. As the sun was setting we decided to head back to Oakland. On the way we stopped to check out this supper cool store Jacky was telling me about they had a lion in the window ( it was stuffed). It was closed so we just peeked in the windows and then walked towards the BART stop.

We happened to stumble upon one of the shops I wanted to see called the Five & Diamond. Oh my it was a site to behold… I’ve touched Skin Graft!!! ( for thoughts of you who do not know this is a couture clothing line based in San Francisco. I also got to touch and pick up Wild Card ( more SF designers ).

I was like a religious experience to finally be in the store I’ve been ogling online for years. I totally had a moment and poor Jacky couldn’t join in. She realized the coolness just not why I would get so excited about a store that charges $80 for a sleeveless shirt. lol This reminded me of why I wanted to come here. To be around this kind of creativity and to experience the things that I have and will soon experience.

We walked back to the BART and started on our way. Jacky went to her BF’s house and I went back to the apartment to spend a nice relaxing evening with my kitty.  On the way home I stopped in at the local Trader Joe’s and picked up a few things then walked home with my bag of goodies. Its starting to feel like I live here but I don’t think its sunk in all the way yet. I think once I have a place of my own, a job, and have been here a few months it may seem real. Its like every time I step out of the apartment and into the street its sensory overload. There so much to see and so many things to remember. I’m still working on getting my barring.

I miss my friends back east. I miss my family too. But I know this is what I’ve wanted for a long time now and its turning out to be better than I had hoped for.
